Bio B - Field Study

 

 There was again a huge change in the area, except this time the snow had almost completely melted.  The grass was somewhat green again, but everything else was as it was but without the snow: The logs still had orange moss on them and some plants still had what looked like flowers on them:  The pokeweed was still black and bent in half, however this time I noticed that pokeweed in other sections (though also black) was still standing straight (and had dried leaves on them). So I wonder what caused the pokeweed to break in half....?  I also saw how some patches of snow hadn't melted: What causes snow to melt in one spot and not the spot right next to it? 

 For this last field study visit I went on Sunday, November 27, 2022 Sunrise was at 7:50 am and Sunset was at 5:13 pm I was there from 4:44 pm - 4:58 pm  It had been a rainy, partly cloudy day, and was still like that on my visit.  It was around 36 degrees.  I noticed many things this last trip - the sounds from the neighbors and nearby roads was still louder than usual due to the leaves falling I could hear my neighbors yelling and could hear their dog barking (probably at me lol) and heard cars splash through the puddles on the dirt road nearby. I also heard more birds than last time. I also saw a jet in the sky: And some deer tracks in the dirt (maybe they knocked over the pokeweed?)  There were also some new things I noticed... The big pine tree might have once been a hunting stand there were wood boards on a few of the branches: The plants with flowers that I noticed in my field study area are in other parts of the woods and grow in tall clumps also near po...

So I did three rough sketches of the three main trees in my area. 3/4 are pine trees and the other is a dead non-pine tree. What I noticed from these sketches is that a) it seems that the living pine trees in my area don't have any branches at their base, while others in the woods surrounding the area do (are they a different kind?) (Are they unhealthy?)  And b) most of the dead trees in the area seem to have had their tops cut off. A lot of trees in our woods were cut down for lumber (I think), I was wondering if this had anything to do with that or if it was again a health thing.  I also noticed that the majority of the living trees were either pines or young trees...I wonder why this is?  

 The Pokeweed is no longer as tall as I am, they have all turned a dark purple/brown and their stalks seem to have been cut/bent in half: This raises the question - do they grow back in the summer even bigger since they supposedly live forever? 

The main thing I noticed this trip was the snow. The coming of the snow changed almost everything except for the basic structure of my location. Almost all the trees (except for the pines) had lost their leaves and almost all color had been lost, the grass wasn't green and the plants either brown or white     The only non-pine leaves that were green were a few pricker leaves which was very surprising to me There were also a lot of snow tracks, along with the sound of snow falling both from the sky and from the trees around me 

 This visit happened on Tuesday Nov. 15 2022 from 4:00 pm - 4:15 pm  It was 34 degrees out and Sunrise time was 7:36 am and sunset time was 5:21 pm  There were a LOT of changes this time! I again heard and saw birds, although there seemed to be fewer of them I also heard the snow falling around me. The biggest noise I noticed though was the sound of the neighbors near me, I could hear what was going on a lot better, I think this is because most of the leaves have fallen so there are less sound barriers in the area. However a lot of sound was still blocked due to the pine trees all around me
